Why driver pricing in Delhi NCR is confusing

"How much does it cost to hire a driver in Delhi?" is one of the questions we hear most. It's a fair question: driver pricing in India is often unclear and changes depending on who you ask.

Some providers quote daily rates that leave out the driver's food and stay. Others add charges after the trip. Informal bookings through WhatsApp groups come with no written confirmation at all.

This guide sets out DriverOnDoor's current prices for every type of driver service, so you know what to expect before you make a single call.

Hourly driver

The most flexible option. Book a driver for 4, 8 or 12 hours within Delhi NCR; the driver drives your car and brings you back to where you started. Time beyond your package is charged per extra hour.

  • 4 hours: ₹500
  • 8 hours: ₹800
  • 12 hours (full day): ₹1,100
  • Each extra hour: ₹80

Luxury cars get a senior driver trained on premium cars: ₹1,000 for 8 hours and ₹1,400 for 12. Need to go one way within NCR, with you or just the car? That's a fixed ₹700, including the driver's return fare.

Outstation round trip

For trips outside Delhi NCR, to Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Haridwar or further, the driver stays with you for the whole trip. You pay per day of the trip (up to 12 hours of driving a day), plus the driver's food for each day and stay for each night. You can also arrange the driver's food and stay yourself and pay nothing extra for them.

Example: a weekend in Jaipur, Saturday to Monday (3 days, 2 nights)

  • Driver: 3 × ₹1,300 = ₹3,900
  • Food: 3 × ₹400 = ₹1,200
  • Stay: 2 × ₹300 = ₹600
  • Total: ₹5,700 (₹6,300 in a luxury car)

Outstation one way and car drop

Going one way? You pay only for the distance, with no return-day charges. Enter your pickup and drop addresses in the booking form and it works out the road distance and your fare straight away, starting from ₹1,500. A car drop, where nobody from your side travels, uses the same distance bands, and the driver's return travel is included. Try the one-way fare calculator.

Permanent driver

The best value if you need a driver every working day. A monthly plan starts at ₹23,000 for the same verified driver, 8, 10 or 12 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week. Add the annual subscription (from ₹9,000 + GST) for up to 5 driver replacements a year.

What affects the price

Duration and shift length

Longer packages cost less per hour: 12 hours costs far less than three 4-hour bookings.

Pickup time

A pickup between 10 PM and 2 AM adds a ₹200 night charge; between 2 AM and 6 AM, a ₹200 early morning charge. It's added once per booking and shown before you book.

Outstation days and distance

Round trips are priced per day plus food and stay; one-way trips and car drops by road distance.

Car type

Luxury cars (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and similar) get a senior driver, priced separately.

Waiting

If the driver has to wait at pickup, waiting is ₹100 per hour.

Why the cheapest driver can cost more

The lowest quote often comes with trade-offs you only discover later:

  • Unverified drivers: no background check and no accountability.
  • No formal booking: last-minute cancellations, late arrivals or a new price mid-trip.
  • Hidden charges: night charges or extra duty nobody mentioned.
  • No standards: conduct, vehicle care and punctuality aren't checked.
